Review of the Asus Eee PC 1000HE netbook computer from my dining room table. Includes a comparison with the 900HA. The review of the 900HA can be found at www.youtube.com . A note about the 8.9″ models being discontinued. After reading many contradictory reports, it appears Asus is NOT discontinuing the 8.9″ models. However, the 8.9″ size will eventually be marketed to developing nations and to the industry sector. So even though the 8.9″ Asus netbook size should still be available for a while, It could still become no longer available in your area. A couple of technical rants. First, I’m not happy with the sound quality of my narration. I’ve been experimenting with different settings on my mixer during the last few videos, and have discovered that YouTube’s audio converters tend to occasionally over-emphasize the low end. So even if my voice sounds perfectly all right on my copy of this video (including the slight emphasis I’ve added to the low end), YouTube’s encoder pushed it a bit too close to Isaac Hayes territory. And it’s also distorted! Second, even though my YouTube video has nearly all of the contrast and detail from the original video, the frame rate is all over the place! I’ve been uploading 960×540 resolution XviD encoded material as a test. This format preserves the most detail from the original 1440×1080i HDV material, but with none of the deinterlacing issues (combing, softness, low contrast). Well if you can get away with not having to do a format at the point of installing Windows you give yourself more options when it comes to any files, folder or any data you may have had on your computer which you didn’t have backed up. Windows XP has a similar method of installing without totally destroying the data you had saved on your hard drive in which it just over installed the Windows system files and didn’t touch the folders holding your data. Windows 7 goes about this a little differently in that it puts all your data in a folder called windows.old then installs your new install in the default windows folder. What this means is that once Windows 7 has installed you can access that windows.old folder and them move over you user files such as photos videos and the like to your new install of Windows. Each new release of laptops and notebooks are smaller than the last. With the introduction of netbooks in recent years the size of computers has decreased significantly. The problem is, many of the computer cases on the market are still designed to hold the larger computers. Fortunately, some companies are introducing small laptop cases to accommodate these newer computers.
You may be tempted to continue using your existing computer case even though it is considerably larger than what you need, but you are putting your computer at risk when you do this. Instead of using a too big case for your computer, stop to consider the risks you are taking.
Laptop computer cases are designed to protect your computer when you have to carry it with you. When you take your computer from the safety of your home you are putting it in a situation where it can be damaged in any number of ways. If the case does not properly fit the computer it will not offer enough protection.

Regardless of how sturdy the exterior of your case is, when you use a case that is too large for your laptop, you are putting it at considerable risk. While modern aluminum notebook cases will protect your computer form many of the bumps and bangs that the modern world can deliver, if your computer gets jostled around inside the case it will still receive a considerable amount of damage.
The electronic components that make up a computer system are fairly fragile. Jarring the components inside the computer can damage the fragile circuit board, the hard drive and the screen.
The computer case you choose should be designed according to the size of your specific computer. If you have one of the newer netbooks, you need a small laptop case that will hold your computer in place when you take it with you when you travel.
Padded interior cases will keep your computer snug and secure inside the case. The advantage of that is that even if you accidentally drop the laptop case, the computer inside will not be damaged. A snug fit is often all that is needed to prevent damage to the computer.
Even a padded interior will not protect a computer that is way too small for the case. The impact the computer sustains inside the case can destroy it. By using a smaller case with the proper padding, your computer will be held snugly in place. In the unfortunate event that the case is dropped, the computer will be kept safe.
The fortunate news is, regardless of the size of laptop you are using you will be able to find a case that will fit it. Whether you are looking for small laptop cases, or the large carry-all computer cases, you will be able to find what you need if you are willing to spend the time looking for the right case. Having a well fitted case is worth the time it takes to look for it.
